What to expect:
A comprehensive general eye exam includes a vision assessment to determine if corrective lenses are needed. It also includes a thorough eye health examination, an eye pressure check, and a dilated retinal exam performed by an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. Regular eye exams are recommended annually for diabetics and school age children. Adults should have eye exams every 1-2 years (it’s like having a physical for your eyes).
If you are 65 or older you should have your eyes checked annually or every other year. Your optometrist is going to check for cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma.
